strange problem
Here's the truck type: '92 F-150 2-wheel drive, automatic, 300 c.i. with AC.
Here's the problem: When you are driving down the road, the engine will suddenly emit a strange hissing, air escaping, sound that will rise and fall with the rpm's. The exhaust note will also change to a hissing sound at the same time, however, I popped the hood and there is definitely noise coming from the engine itself. It is very loud and noticeable from inside the cab. You can shut the truck off, however, and restart it, and the problem will be immediately gone.
Any ideas on this one? Oh, also we were on vacation a few years ago when the AC compressor locked up. We shimmed the compressor out and ran a shorter belt to bypass the problem for the time being, however nothing else has been done to it.

Does your temp go up. When you shorten the belt you make the water pump run in reverse. There is a after market pump that they bent the fins backward so the it can run the way. I am not sure about the noise. Where does it seem to be coming from? Left side, Right side, back, front.
