Yep perfectly fine, helps the truck build heat much quicker especially if you have high idle turned up as well. Also did this recently, works awesome no more floppy pigtail.

Where did you buy that? The one on my dump trailer will no longer hold the 3 pronged plug for the charger.
This is a little pricey but can prevent damage and save money in the long run. They are used on fleet service and emergency vehicles.
This is especially useful when someone who is not familiar with your truck is going to drive it. When the ignition is turn on the plug is kicked out of the socket.

Is there enough length on the factory plug to mount this on the drivers side?
I don't plug my engine block heater in, but I do plug in my battery maintainer. I leave the hood ajar and the truck lets me know that it's open. That's come in handy as I've started the truck a couple times before disconnecting the battery maintainer.
I've used that Brand (from Camping World) in one of my Truck Campers, to add an A/C (Female) socket, down near the floor but inside and it is really well sealed - great waterproofing. I also added one of their 50A Plugs on the outside of the next truck camper after that one, to convert it from a pullout electric cord, to the newer style "Plug 'n Play" cords that you can coil up and put away when you're done camping. That was just as well built!!! Marine Grade stuff is always a safe choice!!!
