Tried to look them up and I have had no luck, I would like to swap mine out, they are getting low. Has anybody found these anywhere? Just for info, 1964 Ford N-600 w/330 hd
In theory, these should never wear out. I know the wheel cylinders poop out on these trucks often enough to require use of the parking/"emergency" brake. But if that is happening often enough to wear the parking brake out, then you have to wonder what will run out first? The brake lining or your luck?
I have a feeling a PO was using the E-brake for braking the truck before they repaired the brake system. Lots of new brake lines are on the truck and I just rebuilt the power booster. Brakes are working fine now but while greasing the drive shaft, I thought I heard metal rubbing on the E-brake drum. I pulled the shafts and the drum, and found the rivets are just starting to touch the drum. Good thing I had my radio off, or I would have missed it. My set up looks just like the lower one in the pic you found. Do you have an idea on where I can get some new shoes for my girl?
They were used by a lot of vehicles, but I think relining will be the answer. Sounds like you caught it in the nick of time. At the rivits is more than half worn!
Glad you found them. But the credit here would go to Numberdummy. He posted that illustration some time back. And credit to the search function allowing me (or anyone with time on their hands) to search a forum for posts by a specific user.
I am also updating the Tech folder found at the top of this forum. You can check it out and find various items including decode info for certain items.
Good luck and I'll bet you'll feel a little more secure with a working parking/emergency brake!
This is the new Ford number I found, Ford C3TZ-2648-A 9x2" Parking Brake Shoes - 1964-1966 F350 4-speed M/T If you want to include it in the pic post for the sticky. I know it says F350, but the pic is identical to what my truck has. Once they come in, if they are wrong I will PM you and let you know.
They are a perfect match. They are installed on the mounting plate and ready to go back on the transmission. On a side note, thanks to you guys for the help finding them. That NumberDummy Is the best in finding numbers for this site. I did searches and never did find anything. I'm very glad you posted up 85e150. Sometimes things show up and the info is found, but I guess on this one I didn't hit just the right words. Most times I will try typing the item I'm researching several ways to see if I can find it. I suppose I may have got lazy the time I looked for the E-brake info, that happens sometimes when I'm tired of looking or just tired.
Thanks again.
