I'd love to do a frame-off, but I don't have a shop. Just as well I suppose. I'm doing my Bronco in bits & pieces.
Are you going to keep the 390 or go for more cubes? Those 390s are great engines for sure. I really think resto-mod is the way to go with this vintage truck. You can keep the drivetrain components, rebuilt & upgraded, a modern suspension, a modern stereo and have one heck of a nice, simple and reliable vehicle.
With regards to your initial post for tips. If you don't have the resources to do it yourself, then I would pay someone to blast the frame and the body. You will pat yourself on the back for making that decision. I spent countless hours with a wire wheel chucked in a 12V drill to do my frame and all the suspension parts. I would have had it done on my 79' but the people from "Dustless" said they have to do it at my location which was out of the question where I live as the neighbors will certainly take a ton of photos and complain to the HOA of my misdeeds. $1500 to have it done was their quote. Just FYI

Yes $1500 for both. This is in Phoenix where it can be done year round and they do alot of business with the car enthusiast crowd down here which is enormous to say the least. The Gentleman did say he would prefer the frame and body be mounted on a rotisserie as he could not do any kneeling or crawling around. So essentially two different visits, one to do the body and then another to do the frame. Another caveat is he said he wouldn't be perfect blasting inside the trunk area but he would do his best. One might imagine the same business in the Northeast would probably be double that or close to it as the Winter would most likely slow business down considerably.
