I was in a wreck and when I picked up my truck the audio and sync were not working. I played around with it and got it to come on but at least every week the radio and Sync freeze up. Sometimes it comes back on it's own after a couple days and sometimes it comes on only after playing with the buttons in random combinations. Every time I go to take it back it starts working. Any Ideas? I don't want it sitting at the body shop for a month while they try to figure it out. I'm thinking it would be easier and cheaper to replace it. Is that possible? It's the Sync 3.
Depending on the Ford dealer, plan on spending between $600.00-$1K to replace and reprogram it.
It’s attached to the back of the center stack display screen.
Very easy to replace but the APIM has to be programmed for your VIN#.
Some places online have APIM’s for sell and they can program it to your VIN#, ship it to you so you can install it for a little cheaper than a Ford dealer but in my opinion, it’s not worth the risk.
Before I had mine replaced, when I was using Apple CarPlay, everything worked well on the touchscreen but when I tried to use the SYNC 3 system, that’s when the problems would start.
I’m not sure if this would work for Android Auto but you might want to try it before going to the trouble and expense of replacing the APIM.
Thanks everyone, you've been very helpful. In the accident a stick poked up through the floor under the drivers seat where there is some wiring. Could there be anything related to the audio under the seat? Also the hill descent and the Advance Track service lights come on sporadically. Again only after the accident.
