Cleaning the CCV Doghouse
I searched for a while and did not get any results on whether anybody cleaned the doghouse. Got lots of results on bypassing the CCV, but that is not what I want to do. Apologies in advance if there is already a thread on this topic.
Back-story is that I switched intakes on the OBS and it went from nearly no smoke out the oil fill hole (with cap removed), to fuming out the dipstick (with the oil cap installed). Blow-by is really not much, so am thinking the sudden increase in fumes is from the lower restriction at the intake (read: there is less vacuum after the filter). I have seen reference to the effect in a few threads. Anther possible explanation is that the CCV coincidentally got plugged. Figured that I'd pull the CCV doghouse and clean it anyway as the motor has ~250K and no idea what the POs used for oil. Theory is that if the doghouse is gunked at all, cleaning it should help pull more of the fumes back through the intake. At worst this is an excuse to freshen the CCV gaskets (along with supporting a vendor) and at best it might make a difference in scavenging the fumes.
Related, I recently replaced the unknown oil with synthetic, so that might have something to do with the increase in fuming as well, but I am not the expert here. Then again it might have nothing to do with the scenario.
While this question is for the OBS, I decided to post it here in the SD side as this group is a bit more active.
I removed and cleaned my CCV when I installed my T4 kit. I had new o-rings on hand to install for the CCV as well as I have gathered getting the original o-rings back in is difficult to say the least.
I cleaned mine with brake parts cleaner and it sat for a good while (week or two) before reinstalling.
