Hey everybody! First post on the forum I’ve been reading what I can before being a member and you guys out there have been a lot of help. I just purchased a 1989 F150 with the 6 cylinder and the 4x4 manual transmission(the t18 if I’m reading the door code correctly) I suspect the eec is bad. The truck starts, runs, haven’t really driven it because when I bought it it had a fuel issue. Turned out to be the fuse missing after changing the regulator, map, iac(which was bad) had a vacuum leak which turned out the brake booster was leaking(fixed). It starts rough and sometimes does right after startup After warmup the idle will go from 600-700 ish to about 1200-1400. I think I may have another vacuum leak but I’m planning to reremove the intake manifold and put fresh gaskets on it. But back to the heart of my question. I’m 90 percent sure I need a new eec. When I unplugged the iac and map for testing I wouldn’t get any codes. The light works but I couldn’t get any codes. I’m also sure the eec was a junkyard pull, the sticker is so worn I can’t see any programming code on it. I have the one on the door which I’ve included. I opened the eec and it looks like there is some hot glue like etching or somthing which is almost unreadable. I believe the last characters are CNA. I can afford a new eec but there are so many out there and I don’t know how to choose the correct one. Please help. I’m also worried when I send the place I’m going to order my eec when they ask for my vin will program it worn because when I search my vin it comes up as an auto transmission but the door transmission code is “F” which I believe is the code for the manual.
On the inside of your door jamb, when door is open, look near the front of door jamb by windshield, look for a 3 or 4 digit code there on a 1.5" sticker.

I have no idea what you are saying for the OP to look for in that area. He posted the calibration code sticker which will say what computer was in the truck when it left the factory. There are a few people that have the chart to cross reference that information.
Below is an example of what I am talking about. The 3 or 4 digit code is easy to cross reference to what EEC came from factory, and to find a replacement. Maybe pre 90s trucks did not have that?
More than likely, any 1987-89 6cyl manual computer will work.
The little sticker is the 'Strategy' or the software that is running on the EEC-IV.
There are many sites and lists of what 'Strategy' will run on what hardware.
If yours is missing, maybe truck has been painted.
For the EEC-IV in question in this thread, the "Calibration Sticker" has revealed all parts to do with Vehicle Emissions, including the Engineering/Service number for the EEC-IV.
What is still missing, is the EEC-IV hardware and software versions/revisions. That information can be found on the EEC-IV itself, or on the sticker on the A-pillar.
Guessing, since MAF wasn't on the truck in 1989(AFAIK) it will be a Speed Density(SD) system, probably with EEC-IV hardware "EFI-SD22x".
The software code, will be specific to 6cyl, standard trans, timing, etc, "The Tune".
The sticker on the A pillar would have been there from the factory so how would it tell you what software revision you have in there? As I said, I’m fairly certain my ‘94 Bronco did not have that sticker. It was mass air from the factory. I believe subford has the factory manuals. I’d still rather use the calibration code than that sticker.
I have seen those numbers called the "catch code" or "program code" but not the "Strategy" code.
My 1993 has them on the "A" pillar but my 1995 does not have them on the "A" pillar or anywhere else except on the PCM itself.
Attached is a PDF of some program codes. But do not know how to get a part number from a program code.
Only from the Calibration number on the "B" pillar.
Getting a little off topic, but anyways, here is a quote from FORD-Technical Education Section-Course Text:
STRATEGY
STRATEGY is a computer program that the 8061 microprocessor executes. The EEC-IV module contains this program and through the microprocessor manages the hardware in the EEC-IV module which in turn controls the engine. A different strategy is usually written for each en* gine family during a given model year. Examples of engine families are: 5.0L SEFI, 3.8L CFI, etc.
CALIBRATION Calibration or Calibration Parameters are a set of scalars, functions, and tables that are data referenced by the microprocessor. A calibration exists for each engine ap* plication. Examples of engine applications are: 49- State/Automatic, Califomia/Automatic, 50-State/Manual Trans, etc.
So many different ways to describe different things the same way.
Back to the OP question and answer, your stock EEC-IV should be E8TZ12A650CNA , if your cab and engine are stock.
Not sure why your VIN would show an automatic
Thank you all for your replies. I’ll look for that sticker. I’ve been a little busy with work and haven’t had time to look over the thread. Ill keep you guys updated as best I can.

Thank you very much! How did you find this information? I tried calling Ford (per Cardone) to try to get the correct one and they gave me about 20 different options. I even gave them my vin number. I’m still getting used to typing on forums and you all have been great. A lot of my earlier questions have been answered by this site just through google alone haha!
