Replacing a Mirror

Hey guys my truck got hit and it took out the mirror on my King Ranch. Now of course it is being replaced by insurance from the person that hit it. However, Ford says it needs to be calibrated once installed because it has the blind spot and a camera in it.

So does this mirror really have to be calibrated because these sensors are being replaced or is Ford just really just pulling everyone's legs with this?

That is correct or you will get a Blis error on the gauge cluster.

I can see how the side camera would need to be calibrated/aligned, but I thought the BLIS was only a warning light in regards to the mirror and the actual BLIS radar was in the tail light? That could be wrong... but either way I would think some calibration time is reasonable regardless.

The camera in the mirrors are special sensors that must be properly aligned/calibrated to work with the other cameras used in the 360 view.

Nobody told me I needed to do this when I replaced my passenger side mirror! All systems have been working fine for over a year now with no error messages.

insurance covers it, let them do it. I would think it needs it due the 360 camera view.

It is the driver side mirror and once the new one comes in you are more than welcome to have this one. However, This is the current state of it.

First time posting here. I just replaced my drivers side mirror assembly after a hit and run with one I found at a salvage yard for the same price as my deductible. I have a 2019 XL gasser with heated mirrors and 360 camera system. The new assembly came with a camera, and everything works just fine with a straight up swap and plug, including the new camera integrating with the 360 camera views. The ‘new’ (used) assembly came with puddle light, and of course that doesn’t work on my XL, but no biggie.
