I have a 1996 F250 5.8L. Ive had the truck about 2 months. Starts and runs, has a random dropout like you turned the key off and on really quick. drive it and you dont notice the stutter until you try to get over 60. twice now the speedo and odom quit and would not shift out of second. shut the truck off and on it goes like normal. everytime you go to start the truck it pops a fuse and none of the gauges work except speedo/odom. pull the fuse and start the truck then put fuse in, no problem, everything works. started chasing wires for a short. i think the gauge cluster is shorted? the backside of the cluster is green and corroded like its been wet. found a mess of rewire going to taillights. fixed it so taillights work as they should. found power is bleeding through the taillight wires, about 6 volts, does not seem as of now the 2 are related. cant find where the bleed is coming from, other than it stops when the blinker switch is unplugged.
Also-- the cab has been changed by previuos owner. they used a 1995 f150 cab. it appears they used factory harness. None of the harness looks to be cut or spliced. So is the harness and switches compatable?
Any help is much appreciated-- i am to the point im banging my head against the wall.
