rear differential question

Hello people... Its possible to change the rear differential in my 2004 F150 2wd using one from the same engine size but 4x4? My differential make a weird noise coming from the ball I believed and I guessing will be better remplace it before try to repair it. Any sugestion

So long as the gear ratio of the donor axle matches it should be no problem. If the gear ratios don't match it's still a direct swap, your speedo will just be off a bit.

There is a metal tag on your bell housing with the info you need .

Speedo will not be off, the truck doesn't care about gear ratio. The only thing that affects the speedo is tire size diameter. These differentials use a tone ring for the speed sensor.

I may be wrong but I thought there is a speed sensor on rear of transmission . When I did my maint on rear end of my 05 I did not see any tone ring or wiring .
