E-350 Replacement V10
I am in the process of replacing the V10 in my 1998 E-350 with a Ford re-manufactured engine. The original engine with 158k miles had a rod bearing failure. I decided to go with a remanufactured unit to save time. This engine had several significant overheating events so I was worried about the longevity of it.
I put a new radiator, fan clutch, t-stat, and water pump in about 12K miles ago.
What parts do you recommend replacing while the engine is out?
Currently on my list:
Engine mounts
Intake/exhaust gaskets
Oil cooler
Coils (one bank had oil/water mix down in the plug holes)
Plugs
Heater hoses
A/C compressor clutch
Maybe:
Sensors?
Priority is on anything that is difficult to replace one it is buttoned back up.

I would remove the plugs, coat the threads lightly with nickel-based anti-seize and re-torque them to about 25 ft/lbs---that's pretty much the optimal torque most of us Modular Motor DIY mechanics have learned to use.
If the previous sensors were working without triggering DTC's there's no need to change them HOWEVER I'd consider anything under the intake as potential replacement while its all apart. Also the tube running from the backside of the water pump to the rear of the block should be installed using a water pump sealant. Those aren't horrible tough to changed with the dog house removed but a little pre-emptive "over kill" doesn't hurt either.
I don't recall if the water pump was included with the reman'd motor but if not reuse your recently replaced part---or go with brand new if you're more comfortable with that minor expense.
Serpentine belt & tensioner if the latter isn't included---together those should be less than $100 for the good quality stuff.
Do be advised the warranty program has a few rather odd requirements and time lines related to timely core return to guarantee you're refunded that full amount. Ford's core return policy is fairly liberal, I think they call it a "no fault" program where you simply return something in the rather cool and stout shipping crate, heads ect intact but without alternator ect ect. SImply ship back what you received in the crate and you'll be fine.
Another thing to know should any warranty issues arise---Ford requires the orginal installing shop diagnose and initiate a claim. If you're the installer they WILL NOT honor your work as the basis for providing any new parts or re-imbursements. Such diagnosis will be done in a Ford dealership, there's no getting around that. Also ANY repairs under warranty have to be completed and the final repair/replacement invoice submitted back through the dealership who sold the reman'd motor WITHIN 30 DAYS.
If you run into any other issues post here and if helpful I'll add you to my contact list and we could speak via telephone.
Hope this helps!
