I'm having a problem with my gas gauge on my '86 F-250 4x4, when I fill up with gas the gauge goes below the E on the gauge but after a few miles (2to3 miles) the gauge reads full but then goes down really fast and it only does it every 4 fill-ups, it also does the same thing on the rear tank.
Could it be the gauge or something in the wiring or the sending unit?? Please HELP!!

Tried the gauge not one bit of difference, Could it be the fuel tank selector switch thats in the dash?? I'm at my wits end with this truck. Please HELP!!!!!!!!
If it is not the gage then check the common wiring between the gage and the tank selector valve. You may need to get yourself a wiring diagram. The Ford dual tank fuel system gets real complicated.
Id check your gauges voltage regulator also i just changed mine my 84 F250 because i was having probles with all my gages and it has seemed to fix the problem its behind the instrument cluster ont he left hand side above your speedo it has 2 plugs that look like the 9 volt battery plugs and is held on with a little bolt the regualtor will be silver and if you can help it dont ever buy a new form napa ! all you will do is give them 29 dollars for nothing i went to junk yard got a ahnd full of trucks like mine in there and vans and broncos all the same thing and some diffren gauges and now mine works good
