Many years ago, when I rode street bikes (racing bicycles) a lot, I once saw a bike in a shop that looked like the frame was made of the 14K stuff...
The story behind it was that it was a bare frame made of chrome moly. It was an expensive bike in it's day!
But rather than paint it, the guy sprayed it out carefully with varnish after cleaning it until it damn near glowed in the dark from polishing...
The varnish turned amber, the shiny metal beneath reflects like a mirror. The result looks like solid gold!!!
This same trick can be cheaply and easily done to:
Chromed rims
Bumpers
Roll Bars
Grills
Trim
Mirrors, and their supports
Diamond Plate Aluminum
Etc, Etc....
Just imagine! An "Alchemist" in a can...
And barring "chips" it will stop rust cold in its tracks!
PS: To keep chrome rust free and the same color, you can shoot it with polyurethane and never polish it again. For the amber look - use "SPAR Varnish"
Clear coats are fun to play with!
