No brand loyalty here. Have both a Ford and a Chevy Pick-up.
Also own a Lexus. Have owned 27 vehicles over the years.
Thus far the Lexus is way ahead of the pack with respects to fit, finish, quality and reliability. Those who remain strictly loyal to one brand, are wearing blinders.
Wabiker, shouldn't that say "My ford is my main ride and the harley is in the bed?" Just kiddin. My uncle has 3 or 4 harleys and he rebuilds all of them yearly. He says their designed that way. So we give him hell about it all the time. I like my Fords, but will drive Bucik or Caddilac when required to.
I've almost always driven Fords...drove a Pontiac and a couple of Olds'. But for me, it's what I like body wise...I don't care much about brands. All old trucks are cool, whether they are Fords, Chevy, or Dodge...I like them all. For cars...I like the GM A-bodies from the late 60-early 70's more than I like the Ford mid size cars. I prefer Mustangs over Camaros. Our family has never been brand loyal, but usually we always had Fords.

In the words of the great philosopher...Curly,
"Ooo...A wise guy eh!!!"
Joke: why do harley riders use a closed fist to signal their turns...??
...They need to hang on to the wrenchs'
Joke: how come harley riders hate wearing helmuts...??
...They need to be able to hear the parts when they fall off and bounce down the road
I could care less if the next person drive a chevy or a dodge or a bmw or kia. I like Ford, I will always prefer it and never go anythign else but if all I can drive is something other than Ford, not a problem with me. Ford is my first choice always.
Originally posted by 2Bowers I always heard that if a Harley wasn't leaking oil, it wasn't running (or it ran out).
Love bikes though, wanna Harley next. After the next truck.
...HEY...Harleys dont leak.......They're just marking their territory
Now you know why harley riders where black....it hides the grease/oil stains
Anecdote:
...A young kid at work bought a brand new yamahondazuki crotch rocket, he was very proud of his new purchase, clean/polished it meticuliously, bragged on it all the time...phrasing all the glories of the high tech water cooled engine, race proven suspension, drag reducing fairing and body panels, 200 mph road gripping tires...
Well, one day a girl comes in to work and hears him spouting off (again) and asked him if he knew that his bike was leaking...At which point you could see the chargrin on his face as he dashed out to the parking lot....only to find a large pile of rice pooled up on the ground under his bike...he looked up and noticed the whole dept lined up laughing...He has since toned things down a bit....
Never did find out who put the rice there....

Agreed - I just go with whatever satisfies my requirements. However, because of what I've seen (and firsthand experience), I'll probably never buy a Chevy. I've just seen too many of them that make wierd noises, run rough, and generally look, sound, and feel crappy. Plus their interiors look really cheap. I've just never been impressed by one.
But I definitely agree about the blinders - you have to see what everyone is offering, and base your choice upon needs, not brand.
For as much as I've always disliked Nissan, I think the new Frontier is pretty nice, and I think the Titan looks very promising.
I'm not brand loyal with vehicles at all. If it's a cool vehicle and I can afford it, I will be willing to own it. I've owned Ford, Chevy, GMC, Olds,Pontiac, Harley, Honda, and a Mopar at different times. I have predominatly owed GM products since these were what i came accross at the time of need
I don't think that some of us are wearing blinders. We are just very passionate about the Ford product we love.
How many of you have been to a Mustang car show and seen the passion of the owners that have worked on their cars? Some retomod them, some restore to orginal, and some just try to make 'em faster. But all of the owners share a passion for the brand. I went to the 25th, 30th, and 40th anniversary. There were hundreds of owners. Try to find a Boss 429 for under $50K. How about Shelbys, Boss, Mach1's etc? It is the same for old Ford trucks (just check out this website).
The Mustang brand has many magazines devoted to the hobby. Many small business owners make a living helping the Mustang, Ford truck, and/or Bronco owner.
Harley Davidson has the same passionate owners. It is a bike with style. It is not just transportation. It is a life style (and they sound great).
I am not sure the rice cars/trucks will ever see this. I have never heard of a Toyota/Lexus/Kia/Hunydia car show. They do make cars with fit, finish, quality , and reliability (but, you do pay up for it). But will those owners be restoring their Toyota Corrola in 15 years? Will I ever see a Tundra truck club discussing an engine swap? I doubt it. I would guess Ford will sell more trucks in a week than Datsun will sell Titan's in it's total run.
When it comes to spending my money, I have no loyalty to automakers. I do have favorites but would but money is too hard to make to be blind.
My next vehicle will most likely be a 04' F150.
My first car and biggest POS was a mustang. Then I owned 3 Datsun/Nissan Z's. I still love the Z's much better than mustangs, camaros, trans ams, etc.
I used to have a 96' Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado (V8) that I loved. I can count several times I pulled full size Blazers, Explorers, F150s, Silverados, Rams, other Jeeps, Toyotas, and just about every other truck and SUV out of deep sand on the outer banks of NC. I can also count a number of times various trucks pulled me out. That's why I don't understand the whole thing about laughing about a brand getting stuck. Hell, I've seen Humvees and M1 tanks stuck before.
We currently own a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, and a BMW 325i. The pathfinder is a great vehicle. It's not quite as off-road capable as the Jeep was, but the overall quality is better. It still does what we need it to at this point in time which is traverse snow covered montain roads in the winter and maybe pull a ski boat in the summer. The explorer is perhaps my least favorite real SUV. The 4runner is a great SUV.
Personaly, the only current Ford I would consider buying is a Ford Truck, and I'm seriously considering it. I just don't know which trim level yet.
