Hi all,
I have a 2000 F250 7.3 automatic with under 150k miles, an old skool wicked wheel, and have recently been hearing a weird buzzing/resonance sound under certain conditions like lifting the pedal while under some load at around 1600 to 1800 rpm. It sounds like turbo noise to me, but a quick inspection of the compressor wheel shows it to be tight, not rubbing the housing and no loose blades.
Any ideas or further questions or things to look for?
Or am I just being paranoid and looking for a winter project? lol
Thanks in advance...
Ever done a boost pressure test? Maybe you're hearing a boost leak. Can't hear it over engine noise, but once you get it spooled up and let off, engine quiets down enough to hear.
Yes I have done a boost pressure test before. We found a small leak in the intercooler and welded it up. My boost gage works great and all seems normal with up to 24 psi towing up a grade in 3rd gear at around 2700 rpm on my hydra 25hp tow tune.
I'll try and add a sig line...
Good idea.
I didn't check the hangars, but I did check all the plates and stuff around the exhaust. Maybe I should take the rubber mallet all along the exhaust.
So I finally got check more stuff for looseness yesterday. I could not find a culprit, everything was tight.
I guess I'll just drive with my fingers crossed and hope for no surprises...
