Hello - I've been away from the forum for a while, I guess maybe that's a good sign?? No major issues with the vehicles lately
We are needing to replace/repair the cluster for our 2006. We found someone not too far away that does rebuilds but doesn't sell refurbished units. So I'm wanting to buy a used cluster and send one or the other off for repairs and not have hubby without a truck for a week.
I called the local auto wrecker and the guy who answered the phone said he needs numbers off the cluster itself, and that my providing him with the VIN would not help. Is there a way for me to find out a part number without looking at the part?
Other than the gauge face color, it looks like the same unit in my 2006 F250 XLT. Who are you sending your cluster too? I used circuit board medics for mine and it works perfectly. B.

We are in BC, and there’s a company highly recommended in Kelowna but I can’t remember the name of the business.
Often we can find better deals shopping in the US, but hoping to avoid international shipping costs since the service price seems pretty comparable for this job.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe these vehicles remember mileage in the cluster. Swapping in a different cluster will show the mileage of the vehicle it came out of. So you'll either need to get the replacement one programed somehow, or refurb the current one.

That’s probably why hubby was talking about refurbishing his own rather than a different one. I hadn’t thought about that, but now that you mention it I did notice that there were ads on EBay that featured mileage correction.
Yes they do store the milage. If you don't have the one that is in the truck repaired it
is always best to have the as-build programming loaded into any replacement unit.
They can also take care of the milage at that time also.
Okay, some of this is straight now. But I still would like to know if I can buy or borrow a cluster to use while the original one is being repaired? Is there a way to find the part number using the VIN, or do we need to look at the cluster directly?
RockAuto lists 4 different part numbers (all out of stock) and says that VIN and mileage is required with the order.
The local auto wrecker said he needs the number directly from the cluster, he didn’t want the VIN.
Hate to be blunt. The junk man does not have the knowledge and data base Rockauto has. The thing that cought my attention is they don't have any in stock.
