Hi
i have a 1995 f350 it was having speedometer and shifting issues, i read this is typical of faulty speed sensor in rear diff, i pulled sensor and noticed it had been physically damaged, i drained oil and removed cover, i found little bit of metal shavings and this keeper/shim
The sterling in my 1991 F350 ground into the anti lock brake sensor on the side of the diff. Not sure if it is same on 1995. Check your pinion where the drive shaft hooks up for up and down travel ,in and out and also play between the nut and yoke. The crush washer had settled on mine causing yoke nut to loosen and by the time the pinon was loose enough to rub the sensor and turn on the antilock brake lighton the dash, the splines on the pinion and on the yoke were to worn to use, and had caused bad wear pattern to ring gear teeth from the loose pinion sloping around. I check the pinon nut every oil change now. When I was searching wreaking yards for a replacement I saw several with same condition. I wonder if it is worse problem on manual trans trucks with the engine braking torque on the drive shaft when you let off accelerator but don"t push in clutch. I think that tab you circled is just a anti rotation feature on the limited slip clutches and some looseness there would be normal or normal wear.
