Purchased a new to me 01 Excursion last week and immediately had a breakdown. Towed to dealer and today was told the PCM was bad and they are trying to source another one. The symptoms I had do signify a bad PCM, so I believe that, but the dealer said that they are having trouble sourcing a replacement. I've found quite a few online fairly quickly, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on a trusted source for purchasing a new PCM. Planning on leaving the truck stock with no tuner, but not opposed to purchasing a pre-tuned PCM if the seller is reputable.
I too tried to source an Excursion PCM a few years ago and didn't have any luck.
Ya, I found those guys and it looks promising. Did you not come across them when you were looking?

Truck shut off cruising at 70mph after a 45 min drive. Symptoms below:
Will turn over, but not crank.
No wait to start light
No RPM's when attempting to start (tried 2 new CPS, not ford brand, but all I could source at the time)
Anti-theft light showing an error code based on blinking pattern, PATS reset with key on/key off did not help
Superchips tuner that was installed previously would connect power on but never link to truck to provide/clear codes or tune (hand held unit plugged into OBDII)
Dealer stated their scan tool will not communicate at all with the truck
Truck is currently at the Ford dealer in Lampasas TX. Good reputation, but frustrating since they are 4 hours from me and I can't visit with them in person to discuss.

Sounds like the PCM lost power either through a faulty relay or more likely the PCM fuse that runs the fuel bowl heater (COMMON ISSUE). Do not spend another dime until it's verified to have power!
I agree on the 30A fuse for fuel bowl heater, if it is indeed, and the dealer cant figure it out then I would get the truck away from them asap :-)
If like my 99 and 00 trucks, the fuse box under steering column, right row, I believe 2nd up from bottom
Also may as well unplug that fuel bowl heater

I checked and swapped that fuse, didn’t fix the issue. Didn’t check the relay though.
I’ll call the dealer Friday and ask them to check the relay and confirm power to the PCM. Thanks!
told the dealer about them today, they’re going to look into them.
dealer found another source that was $350, 2-3 week turnaround and not sure about a warranty.
‘Based on your comments about your Dealer, I’d remove the decision from their hands. Send yours to Jonathan, have him test it, CONFIRM if it’s bad and if he can fix it.

I wish I could, but the truck is at a dealer 4 hours away from me. Trying to find a car hauler that can handle the X To bring it back up to my area and a more reputable shop, but no luck there either.

I would ask them to ship the PCM to Jonathan and have it tested...
I will call them Friday and see if they will. Is Jonathen the guy at diesel tech Chattanooga?
‘Yes, I sent mine in he got it on Thursday morning, tested and fixed it and had it back in the mail the same damn day. And when he has it you might as will have him go through it and address any concerns with it. I would trust what Jonathan says over what any dealer would tell me. If Jonathan says it’s good then you know it’s good, and you’ll know to look somewhere else you won’t have a dealer throwing your money at the problem.
