Can anyone confirm the thermostatic choke spring was ac voltage from the alternator correct? I removed that wiring when I did the 3g upgrade. I assume I can wire it to the 3g?
I don't know. Never heard that the stator output was ac voltage. Just that it was a reduced dc voltage and was used for the choke because it was a convenient power source that was hot only when the engine was running.
And I don't know of anyone that's ever tried tapping into the stator circuit of a 3G, or if you did what it would to (if anything) to the function of that circuit.
Since no 3G was ever used on a factory setup with carburetor and electric choke, there's not much experience to pull from.
It might work just fine, and all you'd have to do is make sure that the one end of the stator wire is still connected to the alternator. It's required for the proper function of the 3G as far as I know.
Seems a bit of work, so for me I'd just find an alternate source of 12v with the key in the ON position only. The original Green w/red wire for the old voltage regulator comes to mind. You're still using it for the 3G's Green w/red wire, but it seems like it would be easier to tap into.
I have never heard of any trouble when connecting a factory choke to a full 12v, but that's something that the others can answer perhaps. I do know of many people that have run an aftermarket 12v choke from their stator circuits, but only a few going the other way 'round.
Hello all just another update. Truck is running with the old 2bbl. The combo with 4bbl intake and adapter seem to work really well. Now just to get my $$back for the fitech!
merry christmas!
