shopping for 22.5's lessons learned
I have been shopping for 22.5's for the last few months and have pretty much hit a dead end. some lessons learned for general entertainment purposes.
some of the offerings I have encountered for bolt on 10X6,0 or 6.75 are actually light truck rims drilled out from light truck blanks and can be milled to 22.5 or 22. BUT, are not commercial tire rated.
these are often sold as 22.5X6.0 or 22.5 X 6.75 with 255/70 tire sizes. these would large, but not much wider than stock tires
btw, 2005 and later 10 bolt hubs are 10x225mm
to get a thicker tire on a 10 bolt hub, and keep commercial tires.....the solution is to by 22.5X7.5 or 22.5X8.25 rims and buy a set of 10X225mm/10X285mm adapters.
going this route avoids using the light truck tires. tires sizes for what basically is a semi truck wheel is all over the place...but the point of not being ridiculous is about the 295/70r22.5 area.
if you go over 265's you will probably need varing degrees of lift.
with a stock lift, on a 2019 f-450, 255/70R22.5's would put the tip of your cab antenna a few mils short of 7ft.
anyway...having scoped this out, will probably go with 22.5x285mm wheels , adapters, and high 200's tires.....probably pull the trigger after the covid-19 vaccine . dont want to spend 7K on a tire project until Im sure the covid grim reaper doesnt take me for a ride into covid never land.
