There was a time this summer/early fall that we couldn't get plywood sheathing, some baloney about it being held up at the border for some stupid reason, same with some containers coming from overseas with materials for building products. Not fun when you have a house framed and can't close it in because all of a sudden they can't get supplies.
I get the factories running on half man power and delays but no excuse for excluding materials even getting into the country. And wow with some of the prices, for a time we were paying $7-$9 for a Douglas Fir 2x4x8. I looked at my receipt when picking some up and thought they priced me for 2x10's by mistake. I have a custom house to build right on the coast this spring and I'm not sure what the heck is going to happen.
I am very concerned that these price increases are going to cause buyers to forego building and purchase a resale home if it continues to climb. Many of the homes I sell are new construction, and it’s great to see the builders doing well right now after they had a tough 2 years prior to this.
The interest rates within a year will be something you need to worry about more. They’re building houses down here so fast to try to beat the interest rates. Most are bought by Californians, East Coasters and investment groups.
Don't panic hold off it will all be free in time and if its not free I can buy it with one of you rich guys money after they give it to poor little me I can hardly wait it will be utopia

The low rates have definitely helped us sell a lot of homes this year. We broke the record in dollar volume last month for the area that was set last year.
Yep, guys in the building business here are working their asses off to get the build started at least, so they don't have to worry about contracts being cancelled, the cost of supplies be damned.
So, back to the original post. Ford contracted for the bed extender, and other items I'm sure, to be delivered at a certain time. A loss or workers, unexpected shutdowns etc have caused delays in shipping that would normally violate those contracts but now just have to be dealt with. Rather than hold up the shipping of these trucks, they have decided to ship and deliver them, then fulfill that optional part later. The other option would be to delay shipping until the part is available. In which case many would complain about how long it's taking to get their truck.
