guys, i am looking at a 1996 f250 351 4x4 5 speed overdrive, xlt it has 57,000 miles it's at a used car dealership, he wants 12,999 is this a good deal or not, why or why not, please guys i drive a 79 f150 auto, 400 4x4, (which i will park in a barn to hopefully someday restore if i buy this f250) what differences can i expect, will i be happy or upset, please guys any help would be appreciated as soon as possible thnx.
Yeah, but 250's are significantly higher than 150's.
First off, don't expect great performance out of a stock 351. Your mileage will be about 14-15 at best(depending on rear end gears). Check the GVWR and if it is the 8800 or 8600 pound truck it is worth about $9k and if it is the 7800 or 7600, it will be worth about $700 less to $1k. The heavier GVWR truck is better built, better front end(Dana 50IFS versus Dana44HD IFS).
For the price, I think he is high, way too high. But that may be what trucks are going for in your area. If it close to what others are going for, I would consider it. It should be a decent truck, but kind of weak on the engine side for serious towing, etc.
i,ve had some bad luck so i am not a reliable source, but i will say this, it isnt carburated so get used to working on it and learning what u dont already know...lol. i like the older ones but nothing like the creature comeforts of a newer truck and the heartstopping thrill of a old one, but with some work the new one can make u happy, it is setup right for upgrades, it has maf, a manual and it can be lifted nice with leafs.
