99 E350 5.4 PI engine compatability

Did some searching, but couldnt find any clear ansnwers in the forum. So. The stock 5.4 engine in my 99 ford e350 just went feet up. So now im going to put a new reman engine and trans put in the van while I have the money. However my van came stock without PI heads. I would very much like to have the extra performance. So my question is. Before I purchase a different year PI reman engine, what year 5.4 engines with the PI heads will bolt directly into my van with no issues? And will all of my stock engine accessories, sensors, plenum, intake and exhaust manifolds, throttle body and the like bolt right up? Thanks in advance!

IIRC the PI head engines use a slightly different PCM strategy so that's an issue.

The engine itself is a straight drop-in, physically anyway. The intake and exhaust manifolds will be different between the PI and non-PI head versions. Most sensors will transfer unless they're specific to the year of the engine you install.

I've used a Ford reman'd engine and it was ordered for the chassis. I could have swapped everything over from the original engine but Ford's warranty pretty much demands a new intake so it was ordered at the same time. Everything else should transfer without issue.

If you're going with a scrap yard engine you'll probably have a tough time finding something that's a straight swap.

You should also post this same question in the V8 Modular Motor sub-forum---these same issues have probably been addressed by owners of the F-Series. Do be aware a lot of F-Series will be the 3-valve engines which are discussed quite a bit there.
