on a 79 f150 i am trying to replace the window gasket and after watching precision video its pretty clear the channel in my door is messed up. either up in the door shell too far or it was
misaligned from the factory . i can see it is up too far compared to the passenger side. cant pull it down in place either without damaging paint. the gasket wont stay up in place on the driver side door (across the top ) and it looks like i will have the use some type of adhesive to get it to stay in place. passenger side holds good as it is supposed to. anyone had issues with this and what was the solution . any advice ?
I assume you mean the channel seal. I'm not sure how the channel could move unless your door has some serious damage. since it's welded in adjusting it would be a trick without harming the paint you're right on that.
X2 on the metal rail the seal goes it (should) be tack welded in place. Good luck with that. As far as getting the seal to stay 3M weatherstripping adhesive.
