E4od

Will this bolt up to my 351M? I know it's electronic and will need a stand alone control box, but I would like to find a AOD that would work with my truck.

If it'll bolt up to a 460 then it should work on a 351M/400.

I dont think it will the bolt patterns are different on the newer 351 than the older 351m. I ve called advanced adapters before about this and they said I would need an adapter plate for the bellhousing and the transfercase if it is 4wd. Also some driveshaft work.

The 351M/400 uses the same bell housing mounting pattern as the 460. Get an E4OD for a 460 and you're set. If you need 4wd, get an E4OD from a 4x4 so it has the output shaft for a t-case. You will have to modify your driveshaft(s) because of different transmission length.

If you mean the actual AOD transmission (and not a generic abbreviation), it never came with a 460/351M/400 bell housing. You would need an adapter for that.

The AOD was not computer-controlled, and it was available in 4x4 F150s and Broncos, so you can get one with the output shaft for a t-case. Even though it was never a big-block tranny, the AOD can be built to handle 800 hp (according to Art Carr), so if you build it right, it should be able to stand up to a healthy M-block.

No, I just meant in the generic context of the subject. I thought I had read somewhere that an E4OD would work but I just wanted to run it by this forum before I purchased the wrong transmission by mistake.

Thanks!

Oh, what else would I need besides the transmission? Control module?
