Ok, here’s what I’m contemplating. As I Wright this, there is a power steering conversion kit on eBay for my year . I looked at it and the seller states “steering column modification “ as I looked at the picture on the ad, it seems to me that the steering column needs to be shortened?? I’m not sure and I haven’t heard back from the seller. Has anyone attempted this kit conversion? Is shortening a column a big deal? I’m running a 64 f100, 292 with a three on the tree. Last year for the straight axle!
That kit appears to be a take off on the Toyota steering box mod for the F100. You can search on this site or Google lots of information on it. The 64 truck steering column has a shaft that is part of the manual steering box so it unbolts from the frame and comes out as one piece with the column up into the cab. If you are reusing the stock column you need to cut the shaft where it enters the manual box and then depending on how the connection is made to the new box possibly a double D would need to be made on the shaft. You normally need to do some mods to attach the new box to the frame. Your other option for power steering on the solid axle is a rack and pinion unit. That's what I ended up going with using this kit

I have been searching for months and there are a few options, like the one you mention, but in the fine print there is always those dreaded words
” will not work with a 3 speed on the column”.
Sorry missed the part about 3 on the tree. Your pretty much out of luck with that setup. You would need to move it to the floor to make it work.
I am currently running tires in the front that are aprox 9.75” wide. I ordered new rims from summit and there still on back order. My plan is to go to a 6-7 inch wide tire, that should help with the steering.
