Engine stalls with AC on?
Every time I use the AC or Defrost my idle speed goes down to about 400 rpm and struggles. Most the time it cuts off, this almost always happens when I slow down to make a turn and push the clutch in. Also, when I turn my steering wheel sharp at slower speeds 5mph or less the motor cuts off?
I have messed with the timing several times (basically turning the distributor to the left or right) but it doesn't help.
One other thing; the motor wants to cut off when I let out the clutch as well (AC or No AC)?
Any ideas on how to fix this? I know the clutch may be going bad but that wouldn't explain the idle problem.
Thanks!
WHEN I STARTED READING YOUR PROBLEM, I SUSPECTED YOUR A/C COMPRESSOR MIGHT BE GOING BAD......BUT IF YOUR POWER STEERING PUMP STALLS IT TOO THEN I GUESS ITS YOUR IDLE SPEED. BOTH OF THESE COMPONENTS TAKE QUITE A BIT OF POWER TO OPERATE (A/C AND PWR STEER).
TRUCK COULD POSSIBLY NEED IGNITION SYST. MAINTENANCE (PLUGS,WIRES,CAP AND ROTOR)
Actually I am not sure about the AC compressor because it clycles or "releases pressure" under the driver seat every 2-3 seconds. (no biggie because it still works)
As far as the idle selonoid, what part do I ask for a the auto store and how would I install it? Where is it located on the intake?
And the idle screw, do I just lift up the plastic plate on tighten the throttle cable with the screw.
Thanks again for the VERY HELPFULL solutions!
(also, I have replace plugs, wires, rotor, 02 sensor, fuel filters, egr valve, belts etc.)
I'm not shure of the Idle solenoid pn#. If you have the same engine as me, you have two large hoses feeding your intake plenum, take these loose. Behind that you should find a 3" long cylindrical device bolted to the throttle body. It should have an electrical connection on it, check and clean the connection. You may have to take the throttle plate loose as well to ease access to this solenoid. I believe this is a very common part at auto stores so they'll probly have it in stock. As for the idle adjust screw, it is right under your throttle linkage, held by spring pressure. Turn it right to increase idle. Only a couple-few turns at a time until you notice a difference.
) I will take the hoses of tonight or tommorrow and clean everthing and see if it improves. If not, I will buy a new solonoid.I will let you know what I find out.
Thanks again for your help.
