I have a 98 Branco to with a 2.9 in it keep blowing rear main seal and looses power but then regains it going up hills any idea what’s wrong with it? And should I just get a new motor if so what the biggest motor I can drop in and go

don’t know why it would be blowing rear main seals constantly? I do know the 2.9 is gutless and gets terrible MPG. You can fit a 5.0 in there, search the inter webs and you’ll find some information.
My brother had a 1990 Ranger with 2.9 that would blow oil from the PCV onto the hood but it ran great otherwise. It only had 100k miles on it or so.. I had a 1992 Ranger with 2.9 and over 200k miles and 5spd. I beat the snot out of it ($600 rusty truck ) and it did the same thing eventually... Decent engine but for sure I think they have an issue with crankcase pressure..
If it's a clean truck, I'd put a 5.0L or an LS in it. Either way it needs everything including an 8.8" rear to hold the power
