So I recently acquired what is titled as an 06 F250 with a 6.0. After really looking at it, everything about it screams 2004. Dash cluster, front leaf suspension, headlights, everything. Title and VIN both match and show its an 06.
My question is, what are the odds that everything is original? I know they changed the cluster, suspension, and front clip in 2005, so I was thrown off a bit by it. I love the truck, and it runs great, just a little confused.
Let’s spin your question a bit. What are the odds that somebody did some modification on a 15 year old truck?
So what are the odds that someone backwards modified it to 2004? Most body mods I've seen on these are to update the front clip, and add newer dashes, not generally backwards. I get that its going to be modified, I'm not stupid, but to put the money and effort into making it look older doesn't make sense to me.
It might be possible someone swapped an 06 cab onto an 04 chassis due to rust or damage to the 04 truck. Since it would be a hassle to swap out vin tags without it looking fishy - they just went with the 06 vin & title?

Possibly, but its a 03-04 dash and cluster with an 06 VIN so something is definitely a little off. Maybe they dropped the 04 cab on and riveted the original VIN back on.
There is a thread in the 7.3 Diesel forum right now about locations of VIN numbers on these trucks...I would start by looking that over and then checking for your VIN in other locations. Does the truck have a clean or rebuilt title?

I'll have to go check that out and see what I can find on mine.
All 05+ 250/350s have coil spring front axles, the leafs should have been a big red flag. Definitely sounds like someone cab swapped it and passed it off as an 06. Caveat Emptor.

Thats just it though, I don't think the cab was swapped either. Its all 04 interior. Its like they swapped the VIN and nothing more.
What does the door tag say? According to mine, it is an e99 F450 C&C DRW but the truck is an 00 F350 SRW. I know that it's been in an accident and had the body replaced. Always look for other VIN locations aside from the one on the dash for clues.
it's an 04 that was probably reported stolen and they swapped the vin, i imagine there is no door sticker.
There are numerous locations the vin is hidden, easy one is to just hookup with forscan and see how detailed the person who did the swap was.
There are a lot of plates/stickers all over the truck, an easy one is VIN is stamped on the top of the frame right above the rear most rivet for the radius arm bracket passenger side and then again approximately 15 inches back.
No radius arm or radius arm rivet on that truck. Checking the VIN in the PCM would be interesting. Might also take the vin you have to a ford dealer and have them see what it pulls up in their system.
I still vote door tag myself if it's there, pull the VIN off that and run it through ETIS. Another sometimes telling way to find info, is to google the VIN number and see if any auction sites or dealerships pop up with it. But if it's got ya worried, I got a Mustang I would trade ya for it :P LOL
