Hey guys, I'm looking for a transferase to put in my 04 Ranger........ Hear me out.
It is getting a 4bt cummins and a ZF5. I'm pretty surety 1354 will not take the 450+ft/ls torque the cummins is going to be putting out.
So... I was looking into the 4406 from the 97-03 f150s. Same 6 bolt touting pattern, I think the same ESOF plug and not sure on the size to fit between my ranger frame rails.
Does anyone have a width on a 4406? or even better the distance from the input shaft to drivers side of case and the same for passenger side?
4406 came out in 1996-2003 with 150, 250, and 350 ford trucks up to 1998 I think. It was for trucks under 7200 GVWR and is for both manual and automatic. The 4407 is the heavy-duty one for 8200 GVWR up.
1354 was older. 1354 and 1356 are wider units so keep this in mind. These were aluminum cases and the 4406 is magnesium.
The same bolt pattern on Ford from around 1970 up. If you have a standard transmission I don't think the manual trucks in that year have the push-button electronics that the 4406 had.
I cannot remember about the plugins.
I don't know the width for sure but people have put 4406 transfer cases in rangers with a 5.0 v8 swap... So will it fit... probably, is it a tight squeeze... Yes. Most people trim the tabs off the transfer case drivers side when they put them in the ranger for more clearance.
