I was attempting to decode my VIN/ data plate off my 69 F100. I was under the impression it came with a 390, but it came with a 360. I also found out the was no color code. Is that strange or did it happen alot? Also, is there anyway to find out what the Special Order Codes stand for? Mine says: 740410
Does anyone know what that means. Here is the complete info. Maybe you guys have a better way of decoding...

Color Code is blank

Body Code is 4C81

The 360 was more common than the 390.
Your experience is not unusual. This is a well- documented but little understood phenomenon. 352s and 360s have a mysterious ability to turn into a 390 during a sale, but then re-pumpkin themselves into their original form at midnight, in the quiet of the night when no one is looking.
Seriously , though, sorry about that.
The 360 is actually a good engine. Some call it a modified boat anchor, but I have found it to be as sturdy and reliable as the other FE motors. I will take a 360 over a 335 or 385 series motor any day.
I'm sorry I cannot help with the other items, though!
That's more than I had before. Thanks. I'm beginning to think my truck has had a hard life. The bed is a 67 I think. Has no reflectors in below the tail lights nor on the side, nor marks from where they should be. I believe 68 and up they were required. It' doesn't change my mind about the old thing though. I wouldn't trade it for a new one. Just makes me wonder what all it's been through.
If you still have the original carpet or rubber mat you may fine what you are looking for. When I restored my 69 Ranger to a pro-street under the old blue carpet was a yellow plant assembly code sheet with alot of info to my truck.
