Drag Link Length Issues

I have a 2017 F-350 SRW long bed and am in the process of replacing the drag link but I have ordered 2 different drag links and both have been 2" longer than the one coming off the truck. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
I've tried:
Moog DS300041
MevoTech MS40696
Both have been 2" too long.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you’re ordering parts for a wide track front end. Try MS40764.

If you want a real upgrade, check out PMF. Just installed their Draglink over the weekend, super beefy. Have their adjustable trackbar as well and it’s awesome.

OEM vs PMF.

I’ve been mulling that PMF drag link. Did you have a bit of slop in your OEM drag link? I see you went with the heim joint. It’s not a castle nut so does it lock in some other way? I like to know my steering linkage isn’t going to let go at an in opportune moment!

The oem draglink was definitely starting to develop some play, the knuckle side joint was getting sloppy. I did go with the FK heim, it is SUPER beefy and extremely stout, easily double the size of the oem joint. PMF machined the joint down to taper into the pitman arm like OEM, and they supply a grade 9 bolt with a friction lock nut. I added a little locktite for added security, but after threading the nut on i can see there's no way its coming loose unless you put a socket on it. Threads on hard until its tight. Definitely tightened up the steering greatly. I highly recommend it, solid upgrade.

Thanks for the info. I think I’ll give it a try. Both ends of mine have some slop at 45,000 miles and I’m thinking it’s part (or all) of what I’m feeling in the steering wheel.

Id also check your trackbar, the frame side joint on mine was completely shot around 40k miles and banging around. That was my first PMF upgrade, and this draglink now at 74K miles.

Was road feedback increased with the PMF drag link? I’m considering one. Are there any negatives?

Could you get under there and really feel the track bar bushing movement? Mine feels pretty solid but maybe there’s too much weight on it to really know. I’ve had the wife crank the wheel back and forth while I’m under there and I’ve put some oomph on it with a pry bar and can’t get it to move much at all so I was thinking it was good. The PMF version isn’t too expensive so maybe I’ll throw one at it anyway.

I have not noticed any more feedback. It would be the same as the OEM joints on the draglink as there should be zero play, solid as the PMF. Now i did notice at first a "wandering" feeling, or slight feedback. I talked to Trevor the owner of PMF and he said drive it a little, the FK joint is VERY tight and will break in. Sure enough after a day of driving and properly centering my steering, all was good.

I couldn't feel it by hand, I could feel a clunk when steering left to right while sitting still, and while laying under the truck could see it moving when the steering is cranked back and forth. Now when the trackbar was dropped, the frame side joint completely fell apart, 100% gone in 42k miles. Its definitely a really nice piece, really beefs up the front end.

So i am still having issues. I ordered Moog ds300040 and the recommendation of moog technical support and that was the correct length but the pitman arm ball joint and tapered hole for steering stabilizer have the wrong orientation. At this point I will be going to ford in the AM and just buying an oe replacement. I would of done the PMF but bought a band new fox ats stabilizer

You’re having a tough time! Like I said above, your first order was for wide track parts so they won’t fit on your truck, as you found out. This latest version you ordered is for 2016 and prior. The length is the same but the stabilizer geometry was changed when the frame was redesigned for 2017 so even though the rod itself fits, the stabilizer won’t. The part# I gave you above is the one you need, MevoTech MS40764. Moog doesn’t have one for the 2017 and up models so don’t try to order another Moog part. The OEM drag link seems to have a small amount of slop even when brand new. A couple of forum members have reported good results with the MevoTech so if it were me I’d pass on the OEM link and I’d try to order the aftermarket part one more time.

You could still get a 1.5" stabilizer clamp and use your Fox ATS stabilizer with the PMF trackbar.

EDIT:

OEM vs PMF.

Where would the stabilizer go?
Or do you not run one with that drag link?
