Maybe a dumb question, but does the $40 USB straight from Ford work more reliably than the download method? I tried the Download months ago and it would never work, but I would be somewhat interested in forking out the $40 if it worked right off the bat.

Save the cash and use your phone and the available free navigation apps because the updated Ford maps are still out of date.

I have no issue with Sync Navigation, especially in Colorado Rockies with no cell service.

NO!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
I thought the same thing. I’ve been fighting this for month. Now, the dealer will be looking at it... AGAIN.

I assume that file keeps track of the update process. I have deleted that file from the USB and will try the update again when I have the time.

You didn't mention it but after you deleted this file you need to put the original license file back on the USB device before attempting the update again. It is a separate file download and not included in the original folder. The license file name I have is 4U5T-14G424-CC.TAR. This way you know it will be a fresh update.
Thanks, but you're missing my point. The file that I deleted was not on the original USB stick. It was a new file that was generated during the update process. The license file had not changed. I used the program UltraCompare to look at all the files from the install folder on my PC and compare them to what was on the USB after the failed update. I not only had it do a date/time compare, but also a binary compare of each file's contents.

My apologizes. I was not aware that the system generated another file during the update process. I did not have this new file on mine after the update. I know when I've updated my Sync version the system generated a new file after the update to upload to Ford but I did not get any new file on this update of the map. Anyway I hope you can get yours updated. It should not be this difficult or problematic.

Can you let me know if and when you get yours updated if you show a new file that was generated on a successful update? I'm still not sure if mine is properly updated even though my map version shows the newest version. Thanks.

Check https://syncnavigation.com/ford/home. It should tell you if there are any map updates are available for your truck after you put in your VIN and ESN.

yes, it shows that I need update to 1.19. Do I pay for it from the ford home, or is there a freeware I can install to update it?

I don’t know what year your truck is, but the update for my 2019 was complimentary from Ford as long as I used by own USB stick. Otherwise it was $40 to have them send me a USB stick with the update preloaded on it. If your truck is a bit older, you may not be eligible for the complimentary upgrade. It’s up to you if you want to pay for it, I didn’t notice much of a difference after the update but my truck also came with ‘18 maps, so newer than yours to begin with. I’m not aware of a freeware version, and any you may find on the internet (eBay, etc.) won’t be backed by Ford.

Apparently the USB provide by Ford isn’t backed by Ford either. Still fussing with mine. In fact, it’s at the dealer now.
