MAP issues

Hi everyone. I recently did a swap where I took a 5.8 351 engine and E40D transmission from a 93 Ford Bronco and put it into a 1995 Bronco that had a 5.0 302 and a E40D transmission in it originally. I also swapped the PCM from the 93 into the 95, and had to change one of the plugs on the transmission to match the 93 trans. I’m having an issue where I can’t get the truck to start(this is the first attempt after the swap). We’ve gotten it to fire on starting fluid but it doesn’t stay running, we also check to make sure there was fuel in the fuel rail etc etc. I realized this morning that the 93 had a MAP sensor and the 95 had a MAF- neither of which we hooked up on this swap. I had read somewhere someone did this swap and had used the MAF but also didn’t swap computers but somewhere in there I forgot the MAP as well. Long story short, being that the wiring is there already, can I put the MAF box back in and plug it in and it work properly? Or is there an easy way to wire in the MAP sensor into this system? I also noticed the 5.8 has a sensor in the intake next to the fuel rail on the driver side of the engine that the 5.0 did not have, but I’m unsure if the 5.0 had this sensor in another spot, or if it’s also going to be something I need to put in from the 93? I’m also unsure of what exactly this sensor is, couldn’t really find anything about it. Any help is appreciated- thanks guys!

You need to put all of the original wiring and components for the 1995 Bronco including the 5L PCM back into the Bronco. You need to swap the solenoid pack from the 1995 E4OD into the donor 1993 E4OD or put the 1995 transmission back in. You made this swap way more complicated that it needed to be.

The Air Charge Temperature (ACT) sensor moved from the lower intake to the air filter box around 1994. You can leave the ACT in the donor lower intake (not connected) or remove it then plug the hole.

Well the problem is I’m not sure how much of the 5.0
stuff we took out is good.. for instance, you can hear some rattling in the 5.0 PCM and on top of that the bolt was stripped out so it would not come out of the PCM in the first place so that insert is now bouncing around in there as well. We also changed the trans in the 95 because the guy we did it for said it was bad- when I changed the plug on the one I noticed some wires were exposed right at the plug so I’m wondering if they were just shorting out but I really have no way to tell. Is the trans solenoid pack the plug connected to the shift linkage, or the plug on the opposite side? This swap was definitely way more complicated than originally thought- only reason we switched the computer in the first place was some ones advice that the truck would run better with the 5.8 computer than the 5.0 computer anyways and it’s just turned into a giant headache lol. Thanks

90% (what I've seen & experienced here) E4OD "failures" are computer/wiring/MLPS (@ shift lever) issues.

Get a replacement computer, either for your batch code/calibration #, or similar, (for 95 5.0/E4) first of all & we can go from there.

Solenoid pack is on passenger side rear.

There are only 2 ways this will work, the vehicle must have a complete matching PCM and wiring harness for either MAF or SD, you cannot mix parts of the two systems. IMO the best solution here is if the '95 MAF wiring is all available put it on the motor, install the MAF meter and airbox and get a refurbed PCM for it. Transferring wiring from the other truck is a bigger job than you might think, it will not be a simple plug and play.

Okay so a few more questions. Sounds like getting a new PCM is the way to go, so I’m assuming the 5.0 PCM will operate the 5.8 engine properly correct? On top of that, I assume to change the solenoid pack, I have to drop the trans pan to access it? And lastly does anyone know a good source to get the plug for said solenoid pack? Like I said before, I changed the plug for it to match the transmission because the plugs are slightly different, and on top of that the 95s plug had exposed wires coming from the plug so I think it may have been shorting out anyways. Thank you guys so much for the help, sorry if these are kind of dumb questions this is my first time doing anything like this so learning as I go haha.

If it was mine, I'd CAREFULLY remove each pin in the plug one at a time, clean & slip a piece of heat shrink over the insulation tear.

No electrical tape please.

But then I can safely solder a new donor pin with pigtail too.

I did find some new plugs online to order, which is probably the route I will go because when i cut the old damaged connector off I cut it pretty short to make sure I had plenty of wire to attach the plug from the 93 when I put it in, so there isn’t a lot of wire to really cover back up. So really my only concern is that the 5.0 computer will run the 5.8 properly

I went to a whole lot of trouble to convert my 5.8 truck to a 5.0 MAF harness that could be run by a 94 MAF computer. Twice.

Once with a modded harness & the second a complete swap of the engine bay harness.

Runs fine.

You have essentially what I wish I'd started with.

Just for a bit of clarity, what is the transmission code on the door of 95?

I was initially thinking the same thing...but the OP has a Bronco. I am not aware they ever got the 5L/4R70W combination like the F150 did.

Thought so but, with such gaps in my knowledge, I try not to take a lot for granted. Thanks for the back stop.

The transmission is not listed in the VIN. It is listed on the driver side b-pillar sticker.
