Hey to you all, got an interesting post. A couple of friends of mine are experincing a "POP" when they crank their wheel to one side or the other. Like if you tried to turn your truck into a compact parking spot. Now, they both have 03' supercrew's w/ aprox. between 4k and 8k miles on them and 3.5" Fabtech spindal lifts.Everything has been re-torqued including the wheel bearings. The SPACERS that go on the lower control arms around the lower ball joints are also installed.Called Fabtech and they never heard of it , unless the SPACERS are not installed. Has anybody experienced this and where is the "POP" coming from and also what would be a fix for the problem.
Years ago, my mother's car had a problem similar to this. (Although, without actually hearing/seeing the problem, I can't be certain how similar it may be.)
In her case, we had recently had the wheels re-aligned, and the mechanic didn't re-torque the A-frame after making adjustments.
Look for loose suspension parts or parts showing odd wear patterns (where there should be no wear.)
The way we finally found the problem with mom's car was to lay under the car and look while someone sat in the car and turned the steering wheel hard to the side. Watch for parts that move in directions they aren't supposed to.
There are absulutly NO signs of wear, NO signs of anything showing an abnormal wear. The pop only sounds when the vehicle has all the weight on all four tires while turning sharp into like a parking spot, NOT jacked up. I know when you add spindals to lift a truck ,the lower ball joint has more stress on it due to the angle, thats why the shim is added over ball joint to take up the gap between the retaining clip and lower control arm.I'm thinking it would be that area to look at, but i'm not sure thats why i'm asking if anybody has experienced this pop. Thanks in advance, Rich
Yes only when cranked as far as they can go. I also thought it would be the turning stops on the spindals hitting the stops on the lower control arm??

a) As already indicated, if this is the problem, it will only do it with weight on the tires. This is why it took us so long to figure it out.
b) It's a truck (this time), not a car. You don't have to jack it up to look underneath it. You just have to trust the person turning the stearing wheel not to put it in gear. (In other words, don't get your 12-year-old to help you diagnose.)
Racerguy,
Hey thanks for the Info. The dab of grease worked well. The 2 metals together when under presure,it had to give and that was the noise. Thanks again. Rich
