I traded my 2011 off with 190,000. It had had the ball joints changed once, multiple front unit bearings (3 pair), brakes a couple of times. Motor and trans were perfect. My problems were it was rusting out, needed new tires again, a power steering unit, and the auto hubs fixed. Manual engagement was fine. When I sat in the new F350 King Ranch I was had.

I think these trucks are powerhouses and will stand up for 300k+ with the right treatment. But for that price, I think you could do better. For instance, I bought my ‘15 F-250 Platinum a little over a year and a half ago. It only had 72k miles on it, was a CPO in near mint condition, and was bone stock and unmolested. I paid 41k for it and then paid another $1600 to Ziegler Ford for the Premium extended warranty. That covers everything until 140k miles or 3/22. The only thing I would be worrying about with that truck is the DPF and worn front end as previously mentioned, and whether or not all of the maintenance was up to date. But like I said...I think you could do better and be happier in the long run. You may also want to think about what your resale value will be once you reach 300k versus 200k.

Make sure you buy a warranty with truck or have a fat bank account for when something breaks on it. I personally sell my trucks at around 85K Miles or so. Too much can go wrong out of warranty. My current truck is total garbage. You couldn't give me another 6.7L diesel from Ford.

The 6.7 is a very overbuilt platform and the motor and trans are good to over 500k miles with proper maintenance. We are talking 6 bolt mains, CGI deep skirt block etc...that’s the kind of things you see in NEW big truck motors. lots of guys buy them at 200k + miles and never worry about it. If it’s the truck you want I wouldn’t worry about the miles at 185k.

the 500k mile 6.7 b10 rating is for f-650/750 installs in which they detune the motor to produce less power.

I'd be most worried about the fuel system, that is the expensive fix and easiest to fail and will never be covered under any warranty. Front end doesn't break the bank and guys have low mileage DPF's laying around all over the place, but I'd get rid of the dpf if it was me. Or get out of Caviar tastes and buy a brand new "loaded" STX for not a ton more.

Either way an oil analysis(s) and a couple hundred dollar inspection by a third party mechanic would be well worth the money.
