I have what appears to be stock suspension on my 01 limited 4x4. However, it came with airbags on all 4 corners. I am in need of new tires and was looking at ditching the stock rims in favor of some bling. I am considering 20x10 wheels with 33x12.5 tires.
1. Offset and spacers... i dont want to rub. I can deal with full lock rubbing but would like to avoid any at all. I've googled this for a week now and saw some good looking ideas, but nobody specifies offset and or spacers.
2. I can get some hight off these bags. How much do i need from center of the hub to wheel well to clear 33s. Maybe 35s? People talking about 2 inch lifts up to 6-8 and others saying a 35 will fit stock. However...no widths mentioned.
I'm sorry for another discussion like this but i am on information overload. I can't search anymore.
Thanks! Yes, wasnt expecting them to be cheap. I ran 20x10s on a 2014 Ram 2500 and found that lesson out.
Since I posted this I found customwheeloffset.com. There are tons of pics in there with different Xs on different size wheels/tires. All of them list offsets also. I really dig this look, but probably will not go 35s on this set of tires.
There is an on board compressor to run the rears. Fronts I have to do manually. When I bought it the pressures were 65/55 front/rear. The lady liked sitting up high. Truck bounced all over the place. With the steering wandering like a priest through a boys choir it was an interesting 2 hour trip home from the seller's house. 1st thing i did was drop pressures to 25 all around.
Obviously, real suspension upgrades are preferred, but its tires or suspension right now. Fronts are almost bald and winter is coming. Tires win. Bags can hold me up higher until the slush funds recover. Plus, I need this thing to work right now. Having it down replacing broken rusted parts from removing old parts is not an option. Spring/summer i can do it right. I just need to clear the tires until then.
Just found a really cool chart that gives conversions for all of this. If you assume the stock 16x7 is 25mm offset and 4.5 inch backspace (according to ford I didnt measure)...
There's a chart on roadkill customs for excursion rims that does the conversions for width. According to that chart, subtract 6mm offset per half inch to make them fit. So 10 inch wide rim is -13mm offset to fit.. Sort of makes sense, i think.
Since someone in this thread said a 33 will fit the wheelwell, then i should be good to run 33x12.5 on 20x10 rims.
Unless all this is being figured out using common core math then I am screwed.
If you used the bag setup as your primary payload spring rather then a “lift” spring you would have the makings of what could be a extremely nice riding suspension. But using them for a “lift” the way your suspension is configured is going to be what you have already found out. Poor ride quality because with the spring rate at 55psi plus the stock spring rate is way to high, doubtful you Will find a suitable shock to match.

I agree 100%. Temporary solution. I am also researching suspension changes. However, if I had the necessary components today I would still wait until late Jan/early Feb before I changed it out. Need the vehicle operational until then.
