The VIN number tells some, but not all. The rest you'd have to get some educated guesses on and just fill 'er in.

Back in a minute with more info. A screen shot from a tool I'm working on.

More info to come <here>

Sure. Some of the other things are etched in stone and others are up in the air and you can choose. I've filled in some of the most common numbers and given some thoughts below. I hope it is helpful.

F26 - F250-4x4

Y - 352 2V

L - Michigan Truck Assembly Plant

761499 - October 1965 - 1966 Model Year

120 Inch Wheelbase.

Color - if originally Raven Black it would be A, but you can make it any color I suppose or leave it blank and truly make it any color (special order, see below)

F260 - F250 4x4 6,800 Lbs GVWR - most common

x81 - x = Some color crush vinyl and some color wicker pattern vinyl - 81 = Standard or Custom Cab.

A - NP-435 manual transmission??

25 (non-locking) or B5 (locking) Dana 60 4:56:1 rear ratio. Some would be 25K or B5K where K means the Dana 44 front 4.55:1 ratio, but this isn't as common to see the K, still there if you want it for sure.

6800 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

172 net HP @ 4000 RPM

XX (or XXYYYY) - Sales Office - A Michigan Truck like this could have gone to a number of districts. In 1966 Milwaukee, WI was code 43 I believe. If you leave color blank then you'd have to come up with a 6 digit DSO like 43YYYY where YYYY is the special order number.

Sorry if that was confusing. Many of the F250 4x4 trucks - while they all had the Dana 44 4:55:1 ratio front live driving axle - for some reason they didn't consistently stamp the K on the plate after the 25 or B5. I guess since it was implied they usually didn't bother - but occasionally did. NumberDummy has mentioned the hit/miss on that detail. Later years were more consistent especially once they started offering more than one possible ratio in the F250. You can go either way, for sure. The vast majority of trucks I've noted in 1961-1966 don't have the K, I own 2 and my buddy owns 1 that all don't have the K. Odd detail.
