It is only cost effective if you already have the matching parts or can get the matching parts for cheap. The only exact bolt on aftermarket on is an Edelbrock 3881, which do come up used every now and again, but the Mustang style parts are much more plentiful. Check your local and regional classifieds.

I already have 36 lb/hr injectors, calibrated maf, aluminum heads, lunati voodoo cam, 1.6 roller rockers. What else would I need?
Truck style intake uses different equipment from mustang style intake. Things like throttle body, EGR, air intake hose, and so forth are different. You can make it work either way. I am just pointing out that a mustang style intake will require additional parts, so it may not really be cheaper.
Right I see that the throttle body is different, won't be using EGR or smog so that doest matter. Flow wise how does that intake compare to say a trick flow box type intake? Similar I would assume since the look similar.
The Trick Flow Box R and the Edelbrock Truck EFI intake are worlds apart. The runners on the Box are huge and a straight shot into the chambers. The eddy has fairly small, long runners, but still a huge improvement over the stock 351w EFI intake.
This mostly boils down to what you're planning to use the truck for, and how much you want to spend. If you aren't planning to change the throttle body, the Eddy unit will be a much cheaper option, as the truck throttle body and throttle cable bracket, throttle cable, intake tubes, etc. fit up with no issue. If you go to the single throttle body route (mustang or lightning style), you'll need a new throttle body, new cable, new bracket, new intake tubing.
I have the Eddy intake on my '89 (mostly used for towing) and I like it. Fit up great. Reused all the other factory components around it. My '94 has the Box R with a 90mm TB. Had to make my own throttle bracket and cable. Had to buy a new throttle body. Fab'd a new intake tube and filter set-up. A lot more hassle, but that truck lives above 6k RPM so it was much better suited.
