So I bought this Prothane bushing kit for my 72 f100. Got the front bushings all done. Need to do cab mounts, radiator mounts and the rear spring bushings. So this kit has 2 boxes for rear bushings. It says one is for 57-72 and the others are 73-79..... so sweet, I got a set of bushings for my 79 whenever I get around to that. But my question is, there are 6 bushings in the rear spring kit. By my count theres 8 bushings on the rear springs. 1 on the front part of the spring and 3 on the shackle, on each side. So it would appear I need 8 not 6. Which one doesn't get the new bushing?
Your rear leaf shackle is called a Flexomatic. The Prothane kit doesn't cover all of these. In fact, you will find that none of them actually fit but you can hack together a couple of the parts to make it work for a couple of them in total. Alternatively, you can remove the flexomatic and replace it with a standard shackle but your leaf is too long.
ive seen conflicting info about fom leaf springs being a different size. i know the eyes are different cuz i have some nos bushings that are too small diameter for the fom springs
My Ford microfische slide does not mention Flexomatic or not. Only 4 leaf springs listed for a 1972 F100 4X2. Difference is listed by load rating (capacity) , GVW, and number of leaves.
