I have a 2017 F-350 Diesel Crew Cab SRW. The button on the tailgate does not work. I am able open the tailgate with the key fob and also the button on the dash works fine.
I took it to a local dealer and they had the truck for several days but were unable to figure out the problem.
Before I take it to a different dealer, I wanted to post here to see if this is a known issue.
I just had my 2020 F350 in for service and told them of my tailgate problem. Mine randomly will not open from any button, dash, keyfob, or tailgate. Which is a pain in the *** when my bed cover is locked.
They couldn't duplicate as it is random. There were no recalls of TSB's for it, at least for a 2020. They didn't do anything.
check rear harnesses /connections around the spare tire for corrosion.Grease all connectors with electrical grease as to eliminate one possible issue at a time
On another note, I was rinsing out my bed and when I put the tail gate up, I was amazed at how much water was coming out of the tail gate by the latch and plastic trim. I was thinking this cant be good for so much water being able to enter the tail gate with puddle light, electronic locking and camera in this area.

Anyone else have this problem before?
Thanks!

Same problem here. Had the tailgate recall done and still doesn't work. I haven't been forceful with dealer but I am shortly. Reason is I have a slide in truck camper and now to remove or put the tailgate back on there is a bundle of 4-friggin connectors that do not fit through the hole. I want it back to the way I bought it and for the damn button to work.
I had it back to the dealer twice and they keep saying that they fixed i. Bull****! 2020 F450and the tailgate did not work from day 1. They would give me another loaner but every time it was another 400km for them to check it out. The problem I believe is that the latch is out of adjustment. I took my torx driver and made an adjustment to the opposite side and it worked great. I don't think it applied enough torque and now it is back to it's old tricks. I will adjust it again tomorrow and torque it appropriately.

Yes, my dealer finally found the culprit, which was a chafed wiring harness behind the fuel tank.
Thanks for sharing! My 17 was fine and then had the tailgate recall done and everything but button would work. Even replaced button. Could not find a problem. I will take this info to my service department.
I had the recall done about a year ago, and several months ago I started having the same problem. I have an appointment for it tomorrow. I find it interesting that the problem was wire chafing. I was assuming it would be a bad switch since the key fob and dash button. both work. Will post results after my appointment.
The tailgate button worked flawlessly while at the dealership yesterday, but they replaced the button switch, thinking that might be the problem. I checked it again after I got home and couldn't make it work...
In short, no. That was three years ago. About 2 years ago I took it to a different dealer and they found a bad wiring connection from the dealership that did the recall and fixed it no charge. It worked fine after that until a couple months ago, when it started not locking most of the time. I took it to the dealership that fixed the non-opening issue and they had their lead wiring guy on it for two days. He narrowed it down to "an open line forward of the cab" and was shaking harnesses and unplugging plugs when it just started working. They admitted they didn't fix anything, but you can't troubleshoot a fault when the fault doesn't exist. They didn't charge me, said they couldn't even charge Ford corp since they didn't find anything, and they would just eat the cost. I have 4k miles left on my extended Ford warranty. They said bring it back if it happens again. I'm pretty impressed with their service.
