Hello, have a 2004 e250 4.6L 2wd automatic, with instrument panel cluster problems. Originally wouldn't start found out it was fuel related, IFS switch was shorting out, reconnected and reset the switch truck fires up and runs.
This is where the fun begins, no gauges working in the cluster, no interior lights, no radio, windows, replaced the cluster and everything was working. So I take it for a drive. Once I get back, park it, starts smoking and boom another failed cluster ( cluster number 2). It's burning pin 14 (logic ground) on connector c220b when it fails. Went through and checked for continuity for grounds and power everything checked good, load tested the circuits, found the alternator was bad replaced that, Unplug as much as possible from that harness and try connecting things individually with another replacement cluster, no smoke then I plug in the FPDM smoke starts coming from cluster #3. Unplug then replace the FPDM no smoke, start doing koeo and koer tests found P1237 Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault. Start a pinpoint test and ended at replacing FPDM so replace that again, P1237 clears. Only other code was P1703 Brake On/Off Switch Out of Self-Test Range. Everything was working great park the truck and change out the rear shackle, start it up to drive it and smoke starts coming from the instrument cluster again boom lost cluster #3. Not sure what to do at this point.
Hello, I didn't have access to an ids. The problem was found to be the fuel pump that had an intermittent internal short. Adding a ground wire to the fuel pump helped and made it seem like it was fixed then it died again same symptoms plus blown fuel pump fuse.
Im glad to hear that you fixed your issue. I was just curious if your replacement clusters needed to be programmed to work with your van or if they were just plug and play. I know the mileage may not have been correct but did the van start and run without programming the replacements? Thanks
