1987 f-150 4x4 351 h.o. v-8. what was the stock h.p. and torque numbers on this engine? also it has an auto tranny, which one? is the tranny an overdrive unit? what is the most likely t-case? haven't bought the truck yet or even driven it, just going on a word from a friend...............also it is a really good deal in my opinion.
I have a 1996 F-150 5.8(351W) and the ratings on it are 240hp@4200 RPM and 340@3200. You can tell if it is a Overdrive on the 87-91's if on the lower right hand side of the dash there is an overdrive button. And I think that on your truck the transfer cas is a Borg Warner 56
If it happens to have a overdrive then its more likely than not a aod if it is a 3 speed it is probably a c6 which is a very good tranny in stock trim. Count the tranny bolts, or run the vin or there should be a code on the door of what tranny is in it. All the H.O. means is it has a 4 bbl intake and carb and more likely than not it has the E5TE heads which is a 67cc+/- head with a larger thermactor bump but in reality is identical to the mustang E7TE except they have smaller thermactor bump and smaller combustion chambers 64cc+/-. later
ford96. the 87-91's either had a C-6 or AOD tranny. if its the AOD it does not have a button on the dash. the dash mounted over drive button was for The E4OD tranny which didnt arrive till late 90. being that his is an 87/351 it more then likly has a C-6.
