Hello everybody long time lurker finally became a member looking for a part or possibly some education I have a 1980 f150 300 with a t18 and 4x4 I bought this for my winter beater but its become a project instead anyway I've been looking at the Holley sniper efi set up that replaces the auto light 1100 currently my truck is running the carter 1bbl Holley specifies late 60s to early 70s I'd like to find an earlier intake if possible the base of the auto light looks identical to the carters so I think it would bolt on my intake but Is the egr going to cause me any issues? Or maybe something else might be an issue I'm not thinking about
Disconnecting the EGR can cause pinging issues. But it may not, you just have to try it. Each engine setup seems a little different and more or less susceptible to the detonation problem. You are changing the carb, so this can help. What I have found that helped me out was changing from a 195 degree thermostat to a 180. That got rid of my pinging problems I had after the EGR left the scene.

If you are swapping back that far to a carb then no. The later emissions carbs are jetted much leaner than the earlier non-emission units. With today's lighter fuels that require richer mixtures and on a vehicle with an emissions carb removing the EGR "may" result in a lean ping under certain conditions. If you are putting a period non-emmsions carb on you will have no issues with pulling the EGR and no worries about a lean ping.

If you're wanting an earlier intake just to get rid of the EGR port, you can use your existing intake and just buy a Non-EGR spacer for it. They seem to be fairly rare in the US, but up here in Canada they are fairly common. They show up on Ebay from time to time. The picture below is what the spacer looks like from my 1986 Non-EGR 300. It has a little "ear" that sticks out to cover the EGR port in the intake.

thanks for the info on that spacer I'll hunt one down and I'm not going to an earlier carb I'm referring to this Holley efi set up that replaces the 1100 check this thing out https://www.holley.com/products/fuel.../parts/550-552

Ok now that's a sweet piece of kit and something that is long overdue must be relatively new. Dump your EGR not needed no ill effects if running you are going to be running that EFI set up.

Great news that will tidy up my engine bay greatly just wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered and thank you all for the info much appreciated
The reason the kit only fits the year listed is carb bolt spacing.
IIRC the later has a wider spacing than the early carbs.
I seen it posted you can use a round file to make the holes wider on carbs so guessing it can be done on the EFI kit?
