posted heads

I have read several Y-block builds where posted heads were used. what is the difference between a "posted head" and a non posted head?

Posted heads have additional support over two of the combustion chambers. The other two chambers have that support because of the lower intake port. The 1957 G heads are the only heads where this may matter. The early ones were unposted. The later ones were posted. The change took place some time during the '57 model year. Any head from '58 on will be posted.

It's only really a concern with high compression race engines or boosted engines or possibly a high powered, on the ragged edge of "streetable," street engine. For most use cases, the post will not matter.

Thanks for the reply, I have mostly worked with later ford engines and when I read where a Y block was being built with posted heads, I thought what the heck are posted heads. thanks for the info.
