Speedometer/Odometer

Ok, probably asked and answered but having difficulty searching so, thanks in advance. I Have to replace my speedometer due to malfunction. I have about 6 clusters but none have near a similar mileage. Is there a way to keep my odometer or wind the new clock to match current numbers?

I "think" you can use a drill. If you have another speedo cable you could chuck the trans end up & ziptie the trigger iot let it "drive" while you do something else for a bit. I don't imagine it'd work to try rolling the numbers with a mini pick.

I am looking for a fairly recent thread that the OP talks about this. He even has pics of what rod to take out so you can just adjust the numbers to what you need. Maybe this one?

Thanks. I appreciate it.

Would rather not go the drill route, I think it would work but would just put that many thousands of miles worth of wear and tear on it, I would think.

if your drill ran 1500 rpm, that would equate to 90mph...you could hook your dremel to it...at 30K rpm, that would be 1800 mph! you might have pieces flying though!

I just replaced my speedo and experimented with odometer cracking on the old one. It can be done, but it left some pretty good tool marks on the odometer shaft that made it pretty obvious what had been done. I doubt anyone would have ever spotted it, but I decided that I would rather not have to answer those kind of questions in the unlikely scenario that I ever sell the truck, so I opted to just leave the extra 25K on the new one. It is probably more accurate this way in my case anyways. In your case, if you want to keep the mileage accurate, it might be worth the trouble. Just spend more time than I did to find a way to pull the odometer shaft without using vice grips or put some kind of padding on the jaws.
