I'm looking to swap from an E4OD to a stronger 6 speed automatic transmission, i'm not an incredibly experienced mechanic so i'd appreciate sort of a rough guide of how to do it as well.
Installing it isn't that hard. You'll need to make an adapter plate because there is no six speed with a bellhousing that bolts to a 7.3L. The hard part is finding a controller that will make that six speed shift correctly. I don't know of one.
The bauman setup is only designed for one transmission. The 2011 and newer 6speed from the f150. It is designed to run on older gas engines. You ‘might’ get it to run on the 7.3 but I doubt it would be close to good.
For the time and $$ I would get an overdrive unit instead.
Why not get a built E4OD? There are quite a few builders that do a great job, and it'll still bolt into place and run off your PCM for the shift strategy.
