351W milled heads

I've got a 351W that I've been considering as a good swap for my F150 or Mustang. I know if I swap it into my truck, I will need to do alot of work in order to make it work. However, my Mustang is ready to receive the motor at anytime.

My question is this, does anyone know what the stock combustion chamber size is on a set of '85 heads? I was told between 70 and 78 cc's. Can anyone verify this for me?

Also, I was told that I could take the heads off of my '79 351M and swap them onto my Windsor block. Anyone have any information on this swap?

Well I looked real quick and it appears the modified motors or "m" use cleveland heads so with some work they could be fitted to your motor. However don't use them they are not a direct bolt on, there are so many used castings for 302/351 and the price is right so just stick to windsor style heads. I don't know which head you have but more likely than not your cc is somewhere closer to 67-70. If you want a budget head you might consider the gt-40 or gt-40p the gt-40p flow better than gt-40 but you will have to spend $200 more for the "p" headers which isn't a bad deal if you need headers anyway, or port and mill the ones you have, hope this helps out some

Thanks, I thought I had read somewhere that I would have to do some modifications to the Windsor block in order to use the Cleveland (or M) heads.

I'll just stick with my cast iron Windsor heads and mill them to achieve the combustion chamber size I'm looking for. Besides, that would probably be cheaper anyway.

For every .010 shaved is equal to 2 cc's removed, right?

Thanks again!

Early 351w heads have smaller chambers and also have bigger int and ex valves than later models. I think they have the same size valves as the gt-40s. I have a set off of a 72 and they,re 1.85 int and 1.54 ex.
