Hey guys, I got a 89 Bronc with a 351W. It has about 150,000 Miles on it but it runs great. Do you think there are too many miles on it for a cam and heads. thanks
I would rebuild it all at once. Your rings are going to be coming to an end of their life pretty soon as well as your bearings. Why not bump the compression up a tad, get ARP rod bolts and get a new oil pump to compliment your new performance parts. How big is the cam and which heads are you going to run is the question to ask in my opinion.
Upon seeing what everyone else has written I agree with them as well. I would go ahead and rebuild as they mentioned. IN the very least do a compression test and if it is okay replace the main bearings. Older ford motors tend to always have worn main bearings so I would expect your oil psi to already be on the low side. My vote goes towards holding out and redoing it all, later
Hey Demon345,
If you objective is to gain more power, then redo the whole thing now. If it's in good condition + running well, why not wait to do it all at once at a later date. I'd also go with jwtaylor's advice about the compression testing. Me, I've had V-8's go for 3-400K (but not w/ Ford's). It's basically your choice!
