Engine Too Old?

Hey guys, I got a 89 Bronc with a 351W. It has about 150,000 Miles on it but it runs great. Do you think there are too many miles on it for a cam and heads. thanks

If you are gonna do that, you might as well just rebuild the motor.

Yeah, if you are going to invest money on a cam and heads, youre halfway through the rebuild! Besides, if you have the block looked over, you will be guaranteed that there is no deck warpage so those fancy new heads will seat purrrfectly. If you are on a budget, no, you dont NEED to rebuild it, but (like my father learned on an old mercedes putting new heads on it), some old parts cant stand up to new parts. The added stress of them doing their job right can make marginal quality parts head south. Do you have a certain cam and heads picked out yet?

I agree with rich.

Rebuild just think of the extra stress becaue we'll want to play then right?

With that many miles as soon as you regain the compression on the top end (heads, valves, etc.) you are bound to lose the lower end (pistons, rings, etc.) from the regained compression so I'll second or third the idea of just rebuilding the whole thing.

you can get the bottom end rebuilt pretty cheap to. especially if you do most the work yourself. a machine shop shouldnt be more then 300 -400 bucks to bore out the block and stuff. then just purchase a rebuild kit from summit and away you go.
